The Suicide Squad 2021 Movie Review - A Spectacular watch!
If you enjoyed the first rendition of The Suicide Squad, then this one is a must-watch! (No spoilers)
Over the weekend, my family and I decided to watch The Suicide Squad. It’s above and beyond better than the first film. And while it’s loosely following the first, you don’t need to watch it before watching this one. There are no references to the first, and the only thing you’ll recognise is some characters such as Harley, Boomerang, Flag and Waller.
There’s a handful of new characters in The Suicide Squad, such as Polkadot man, Weasel, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Rat Catcher 2 and my absolute favourite, King Shark. Obviously, there are more characters, but I don’t want to list them all. If you want to see the predictions of who will survive, you can look at this article.
The movie is full of blood and guts, which was a big surprise considering it’s a DC movie. James Gunn really pushed the boundaries on this movie, and you can tell he did it while not pushing it too far. I feel like it was a risky move, but one that has paid off. Especially when you see King Shark eating his enemies and saying “nom nom”. It’s hilarious, it has a ton of action, and the story is far better than the first movie.
I noticed Zack Snyder was a co-director, and I think you can still see the artistic aspects that he’s put in. They work, and I’m glad he was still a part of it. In my opinion, he has a great vision in terms of the art and how the film should look, but he usually lacks in writing a decent story (think Batman VS Superman). This is where James Gunn has managed to pick things up, and you can see his love for comic book movies.
Is The Suicide Squad worth a watch?
Short answer: Yes… 100% yes!
Longer answer: If you’re into comedy action movies, and you enjoyed the first, then this one is really worth it. Even if you didn’t watch the first, and you’re sat on the fence about this one, I would say go and watch it. If you don’t enjoy the film, then you can come back here and shout at me. But I’m confident you will enjoy The Suicide Squad, and you’ll leave wanting even more.
Are there post-credit scenes?
There are, and they do hint at a third movie. I’m not going to spoil it for anyone (since the title says no spoilers), but definitely wait until the credits have finished for a nice surprise. Also, there is only one post-credit scene. Don’t wait around for more unless, of course, you’re buying another ticket for round two!
