Being asked to self-isolate for 7 days

Yesterday, I received an unwanted surprise. Apparently, I have been close to someone who tested positive for COVID, and now I need to self-isolate. Now, this isn’t too much of an issue for me since I already work from home. However, my wife and I have been to all the same places, and she has been asked to leave work. They have said she could either work from home or not earn a penny.

This is pretty devastating because her company hasn’t got a proper work from home setup. She will have to take her desktop PC and monitor from work. Plus, she’ll need a gateway key for access to their VPN. She has never been given one before, and they only give it out to specific groups to save money. Her company is huge, and they should be able to support her. However, through the entirety of COVID, she has been asked to go into the office and work from there.

Also, we have been in close contact with other family members who haven’t had the vaccine. This is really unfortunate, and we can only hope we don’t have it, and we haven’t passed it onto them. We are getting some PCR home test kits to find out if we have tested positively. Hopefully, because we’ve had the first jab, we haven’t got it, but only time will tell.

Being asked to self-isolate for 7 days doesn’t seem like a long time and looks pretty straightforward, but it can have huge knock-on effects. I will keep you updated on what being asked to self-isolate for 7 days has affected us. It also means I won’t be able to work out for 7 days, but that’s a small price to pay compared to everything else that’s going on.

Being asked to self-isolate for 7 days or any amount of days can be very tough indeed.

An update to the story

This is an update to the original story I created earlier in the morning and scheduled to run the next day. I am writing this on the same day but later on. My wife has been asked to stay for 10 days due to me receiving the notification from the app. While returning home, she managed to pick up some home test kits. I took the test, and it has thankfully come back negative.

It’s a relief for both of us, but we still have to stay at home for the remaining period. It also means that I can’t go to CrossFit, have people visit or go to my dentist appointment. Again, it’s a pain, but 7 – 10 days isn’t a long time. I’m just thankful that we are both able to work from home and still earn a living. If we couldn’t do that, then our situation would be looking very bleak right now.
